From bridges and skyscrapers to roller coasters and rockets, engineers create amazing things.

And area engineers will be on hand at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History to teach and lead activities during National Engineers Week 2019 Feb. 19-23.

“Dive into the fascinating field of engineering with professional engineers as your guides to invent, design, test and improve your own ideas in this STEM-filled, hands-on festival,” the museum said in a news release.

Among the activities available:

– Explore the latest in technology from Mouser Electronics, meet fascinating student engineers and try engaging electrical challenges.

– Meet Lockheed Martin engineers as you fly a Lockheed Marin Simulator or take apart electronics.

– Explore cognitive computing with IBM while you meet Pepper the robot.

– Attend a Live Line Demonstration with Oncor during Girls and Engineering Day, Saturday Feb. 23.

– Go beyond basic circuitry to create scribbling robots, movable paper figures and circuits that use Play-Doh "wires."

– Build fanciful flying machines that hover in vertical wind tunnels.

"We think it is pretty important to 'invent amazing' here at the museum and aim to inspire young minds every day," said Van A. Romans, president of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

"Engineers Week is both inspiring and powerful. It gives students and guests a chance to learn about the world of engineering and innovation through hands-on activities with incredible engineers from all over North Texas,” Romans said in a news release. “That kind of one-on-one experience can influence and shape a young person's career through school and life. We appreciate the volunteers and sponsors who make this such a great event for everyone."

In addition to daily activities in Innovation Studios and throughout the museum, guests will find special events on selected days, including a 'Homeschool Afternoon' on Thursday, Feb. 21 and 'Girls and Engineering Day' on Saturday, Feb. 23.
