Mayor Price

At the kick-off of the 2016 Tour de Fort Worth, Mayor Betsy Price officially signed the Health Means Business Pledge and joined The Health Means Business Champions Network. This new initiative by the U.S. Chamber Foundation, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), launched on June 7, with several national leaders pledging to encourage collaborations to achieve healthier outcomes in their communities.

Last fall, Price was a part of a line-up of leaders from Fort Worth to participate in a Health Means Business forum held at the University of North Texas in conjunction with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and others. During the forum, Mayor Price presented the U.S. Chamber Foundation, RWJF, the Fort Worth Chamber with a special recognition in honor of their efforts to promote community wellness.

“Communities have an incredible opportunity to make an impact on the lives of their citizens, employees and future leaders by prioritizing health. In Fort Worth, we are taking the Health Means Business Wellness Pledge because we know that a healthy city is a stronger, more productive and competitive environment. Plus, when you get down to it, there is a critical link between the health of our citizens and our ability to compete in the global workforce,” said Price.

Price merged her passion for health with public engagement by starting the annual Tour de Fort Worth bike ride as an opportunity to tour the city on a bicycle. On June 26, Mayor Price and FitWorth kicked off the annual Tour de Fort Worth, a 21-day cycling event across Fort Worth. The kick-off included a nineteen-mile bike ride and after party at Joe T. Garcia’s. Powered by FitWorth and Lexus, each ride is designed, led, and supported by Bicycles Inc. of Fort Worth, with a full-scale tour of our great city. 2015’s Tour de Fort Worth engaged more than 400 cyclists over the course of the 21 days.
