Higginbotham, a Fort Worth-based independent insurance broker and financial services firm, and Davis Insurance, an independent, family-owned broker with offices in Lufkin and Amarillo, have merged their operations.

Founded in 1948, Higginbotham ranks as the nation’s 31st largest independent insurance brokerage firm based on revenue, making it the largest Texas-based broker, according to Business Insurance, July 2016.

Higginbotham has more than 26 locations statewide, with more than 800 professionals.

The union with Davis Insurance marks Higginbotham’s entrance into the Panhandle with the Amarillo office and expands its eastern footprint with the Lufkin office. Davis Insurance primarily serves customers in East Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Both firms offer personal and commercial insurance and employee benefits.

Ira and Vera Davis started Davis Insurance in 1949 from their home in Lufkin. The firm, led by three generations of the Davis family, has developed niche expertise in forest products insurance.

“Davis Insurance has a solid reputation in the forest products industry with companies involved in forest products and the carriers that insure them,” said Higginbotham President/CEO Rusty Reid. “Partnering with them opens a door for Higginbotham to serve more logging companies and builds our name in different Texas regions.”

Davis Insurance will continue operating under the leadership of Managing Directors Larry Davis and Mike Davis in Lufkin and Amarillo.
