With sales growing as people move into North Texas, Historymaker Homes has decided to make a move itself. The fourth-generation, family-owne business has moved into a new company headquarters in Grapevine.

Texas. The new building is 28,000-square-feet of combined office and showroom space (increased from 11,500-square-feet), and houses 130 area employees spanning the company’s three brands, HISTORYMAKER Homes, Rendition Homes, and Rendition LUXURY Homes.

The company’s continued growth and the desire to be closer to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport spurred the move, according to Nelson Mitchell, president and CEO.

In 2016, Historymaker and its sister brands completed more than 800 starts. The company’s revenue more than doubled from 2014, at $90 million, to 2016, at $200 million. It is ranked #64 on the 2016 national Builder 100 list.

“In addition to needing more physical space for more employees, it was important to become more centrally located as we continue to expand throughout DFW,” he said. “Once we began to expand in Houston it made sense to be located near DFW Airport to bring even more efficiency. Grapevine is also a central location for our customers as we bring them to our new 5,000-square-foot showroom. It’s also ideal as we recruit top talent as we continue to grow.”

The business was previously in North Richland Hills. Mitchell’s great-grandfather, Olen N. Mitchell Sr. began the company with his son, Olen Jr., in 1949. He began the company with three employees out of the garage of his home, signing contracts on the hood of his car.

The new building has several unique features. Employees can check out bikes from wall racks and ride to Historic Downtown Grapevine, which is less than a mile away. It also features an outdoor workspace area with Wi-Fi, a full kitchen and pizza oven, and a fire pit.
