A mansion owned by former Major League baseball player Vernon Wells has sold for what may be one of the highest prices ever paid for a home in Tarrant County.

Wells’ home, located in Westlake, is five-bedroom, 16,238 square foot on 1.9 acres. It was built in 2010 and the Mediterranean-style home was designed by Jauregui Architects. It has been on the market since November 2018, priced at $8.5 million, said Alicia Chmielewski of Keller Williams Realty who sold the home.

Chmielewski couldn’t release details about the sale, but she did say, “It’s the only home I’ve sold with an indoor batting cage.”

Along with the five bedrooms and indoor batting cage, the home has seven baths, two half-baths, a five car garage, a media room, a catering kitchen, a game room and an elevator. The home is located in the gated Vaquero community.

While the buyer was not identified, the Dallas Morning News reports it was former Exxon CEO and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Wells grew up in Arlington and played high school baseball and football at Bowie High School. He played for the Toronto Blue Jays from1999-2010, and also played for the Angels and Yankees.

Should have bought Bob Simpson's house. It's for sale. If anyone who isn't represented needs a showing, show me proof of funds and let's go! ;)
