It is indeed Dickies Arena's first rodeo, but that may be part of the appeal.

The 2020 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is on track to break its all-time attendance record, as the annual event moves to the new Dickies Arena.

For the last 76 years, the Stock Show had taken place in the neighboring Will Rogers Memorial Center.

The move could be the contributing factor for overwhelming and "unprecedented" ticket sales, said Matt Brockman, Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo's communications manager.

Out of the total 25 rodeo performances scheduled, ten already sold out completely. A limited number of seats are still up for grabs on the other 15 shows.

"By this point in time, usually on a typical year, we may have sold out four or five performances," Brockman said. "Sales have been strong. We're really excited by it."

The total attendance number had hovered around 1.2 million for the past few years. The show in 2016 holds the current record with 1,257,900 visitors.

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is expecting the attendance number will rise this season as tickets continue selling out at a rapid pace.

Dickies Arena can seat up to 9,3000 attendees, a sizable increase from the maximum 5,652 the old venue could hold.

"There's going to be a lot of things that look very similar to Will Rogers Center, but," Brockman said, "at the same time, you're moving into a facility that's got all the amenities of a 21st century, modern, multi-purpose arena."

Dickies Arena boasts unique amenities, such as the display capacity of the second-largest, continuous 360-degree screen in North America and audio systems designed to eliminate echo.

Tickets are priced at the same rate as last year, i.e. $30 per show. However, the price of parking has increased from $12 to $15.

The event will treat audiences to new and unique show experiences while adhering to old traditions, Brockman said.

"We're a modern city, just like any other, but our identity is truly rooted in the cowboy and cowgirl culture," he said.

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo runs from Friday, Jan. 17 to Saturday, Feb. 8.
